The National Monuments Service's description
Situated in low-lying wet pasture. A castle is noted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map in an area referred to as the ‘Bog of Brackagh’. A small, square-shaped building is depicted in this area on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map however this is unnamed so it is unclear if this is the remains of Brackagh Castle. A trackway running E-W leads to the structure from the W. No castle site is depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map. Monument described in 1983 as no surface remains visible. Site of levelled castle is not visible today on Digital Globe aerial photography. No castle is depicted in this area of bog on the 1655 Down Survey map of Moycashel Barony (NLI, MS 723-4). In 1837 Samuel Handy was listed as the owner of Bracca Castle (Lewis 1837).
