Ringfort - rath

Situated on the summit of a small ridge running N-S, in otherwise rough pasture with limited views of the surrounding landscape. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a subcircular-shaped tree-planted enclosure, possibly a tree-ring associated with Hall House located 750m to SE. Monument described in 1977 as a roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 27m) enclosed by a bank reduced to a scarp in places. A bank is visible from NW-N-NE and from SE-S-SW and a steep scarp is present elsewhere. There are rocks protruding from the face of the scarp intermittently. A fosse cuts deeply through the ridge (at right angles to its axis) from NW-N-NE and from SE-S-SW and there is little sign of it elsewhere. There is no indication of an original entrance. The interior has a gradual E-facing slope and there are no obvious features. Monument is visible today as a roughly circular-shaped tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography. Possibly as ringfort that was reused as a tree-ring in the post 1700 period. Possibly not an antiquity but a designed landscape feature.
