The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on an esker ridge, in undulating pasture and scrub, with a good view of the surrounding landscape. Athlone to Mullingar railway line runs 215m to SE. Annotated 'Fort' on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map and depicted as a circular-shaped earthwork (approx. diam. 44m). Shown on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as an oval-shaped earthwork (approx. diam. 55m NE-SW; 43m NW-SE). Monument described in 1954 as having been partially quarried away with a slight fosse defining approximately half of the perimeter. Levelled ringfort described in 1973 as no surface remains visible. The surface of the ridge is uneven and there are some stony patches exposed which may be evidence of relatively recent disturbance. It is not possible to trace the line of a bank or a fosse. Levelled monument is visible today as a pair of partial, concentric cropmarks, on Digital Globe aerial photography.
