The National Monuments Service's description

In 1613 Francis Blundell was granted in ‘Kilmacowagh, a water-mill, water-course, and passages, all the tithes of the lands and hereditaments belonging to the late house of friars of Athlone, containing be estimation 12a’ (Cal. pat. rolls Ire., Jas I, 234). The precise location of this watermill within these townlands has not been identified. One of the two corn mills depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch is the likely location for the site of the medieval mill referred to in 1612.
