The National Monuments Service's description
This graveyard was described in 1976 as 'Within the small graveyard enclosure only a portion of the S wall of the church (WM027-066005-) remains standing' (SMR file). This site was described in 1981 as 'A small D-shaped enclosure surrounded by a stone wall. Within is the S wall of a church, segment only survives to a height of 3m high, plain doorway and within a raised area gives the outline of the church. There are a number of modern grave slabs within the enclosure and there is also beside the gateway to the south the head and part of the shaft of a broken High Cross (WM027-066003-)' (SMR file). The site of Clonfad monastery (WM027-067001-) is marked on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map 235m to the NE. However it is possible that the graveyard may be located on the site of the monastery of Clonfad founded around the middle of the 6th century by St. Etchen (Cogan 1870, 553).
