Moated site

The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on an E-facing slope, in pasture, with moderate views in all directions. OS trig. point (390ft/119m OD) located inside monument. Moated site described as a subrectangular-shaped area enclosed by an inner bank, an intervening fosse and an outer bank. The substantial inner earth and stone bank has been incorporated into a townland boundary running N-S along the E side and is almost reduced to a scarp along the N and S sides. The inner bank also has traces of internal and external dry stone facing and the NW and SW corners are slightly raised. The fosse is wide, shallow and flat-bottomed. The poorly preserved outer earth and stone bank is almost completely levelled at S. There are remains of internal stone facing at the NW corner and along the N side. The original entrance is not recognisable, however there is a gap at the NE and SW corners of the inner bank. The interior has a general E-facing slope and there are four house sites (WM025-096001-) within. Monument was placed on the Register of Historic Monuments on the 28/02/1989.
