Ringfort - rath

Situated on a small natural terrace, on the NE side of a gentle rise, in pasture with extensive views to NNW and SE. Ringfort (WM025-084----) lies c. 120m to NW. Monument described in 1971 as the remains of a roughly oval-shaped area defined by a bank (H 1.3m) with a slight ramp (Wth at top 1.7m; overall Wth 4.6m) at WSW which may represent the entrance. The interior of the monument is divided into two unequal parts by an earth and stone field fence running NE-SW. On the SE side of the field fence, the monument is a semicircular-shaped area enclosed by a low, steep earth and stone bank which is almost reduced to a scarp. The bank is best preserved at E and elsewhere it is barely visible, having been completely levelled at SSW. There are slight traces of external stone facing. On the NW side of the field fence, the monument is much modified into a very uneven subrectangular-shaped area which is enclosed by a low steep earth and stone bank which is almost reduced to a scarp. The bank curves slightly in towards the dividing field fence at NE and it is not in line with the bank on the SE side of the fence, being approximately 4m to SW of it. The earthwork has no definite trace of a fosse. The interior has a gentle SE-facing slope with an uneven surface and no recognisable structures.
