Ringfort - rath

Sited on the top of a long, almost flat-topped ridge running NE-SW, in pasture, with a good view to S, restricted by surrounding hillocks in other directions. Monument described as a long oval-shaped area (approx. 42m NNE-SSW; 23m WNW-ESE) enclosed by an inner earthen bank, an intervening fosse and an outer bank. The entrance is represented by a gap (Wth at top 5.3m; basal Wth 1.7m) in the inner bank and by a causeway (Wth at top 2.1m; overall Wth 6m; H 0.7m) at NE. The bank is steep on the exterior and is best preserved from S-W and from N-NE-ENE. It is almost reduced to a scarp from W-NW-N and from ENE-E-S and there is a large disturbance gap at SW. A shallow intervening fosse is visible from SSW-W-N-E and is infilled from E-S-SSW. The ground at the foot of the scarp has been quarried away at SW. The outer bank is visible from WNW-NW-N and at NE. The interior rises slightly gently from the perimeter towards the centre where there are the remains of a house site (WM025-077001-). There are vague traces of cultivation ridges running NW-SE across the interior.
