The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a low rise, at the W foot of a large ridge running N-S, with extensive views to N, W and SW. Depicted on the 1837 OS 6-inch map as an oval-shaped tree-lined earthwork enclosed by a field boundary to E, S and W. Annotated as Killeenerk Fort on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly circular-shaped earthwork which is respected by a field boundary to E, S and W.
Described in 1980 as a roughly oval-shaped area (dims. 29m NNW-SSE; 21m ENE-WSW) enclosed by a low, broad earthen bank with a shallow fosse and the remains of a low outer bank from NE-E-S-W-NW with no entraace feature visible. The inner bank is reduced to a scarp from NW-N-NE, where there are also the remains of a wide and shallow intervening fosse. The outer bank has been incorporated in modern field banks to E and W and a field bank runs just outside to S. The interior has a gentle NW-facing slope. A public road which forms a townland boundary runs NW-SE to the immediate E. Monument visible as a partially tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography.
