Ringfort - rath

The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on a slight natural rise, in gently undulating pasture, with wet intervening hollows and having good views in all directions. The monument has been levelled and is not visible on Digital Globe photography. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a D-shaped enclosure with straight side at NE. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly C-shaped area (approx. dims. 33m NW-SE; 23m NE-SW) defined by a scarp from ESE-S-WNW and undefined from N-E-ESE.
Monument described in 1971 as a roughly circular-shaped area defined by an earthen and stone bank which has been reduced to a low, steep scarp from SW-W-NW and has been completely levelled from NNE-N-E-ESE. The bank and the scarp are much disturbed by burrows and scrub. A gap in the bank on the WNW is due to disturbance and the entrance is not recognisable. There is no visible trace of an external fosse. The interior and enclosing elements are largely obscured by vegetation.
