The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on the E shoreline of Lough Ree. A rectangular-shaped area (approx. dims. 36m NW-SE; 33m NE-SW) enclosed by a mortared rubble wall (T 0.7m) with an external base-batter and no dressed stone visible. The bawn is entered though a gap in the E side of the wall near the NE corner. Structure depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a rectangular shaped enclosure, annotated as ‘Bawn’. This site is known locally as a cattle pound. The bawn appears to be located at the N end of a long oval-shaped rise of ground (approx. diam. 144m NW-SE; 55m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank or scarp visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph. No evidence of any building inside the bawn wall.
See attached plan of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI.
