The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on the SSW face of a steep hill in grassland, with good views to the S and W. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as a circular shaped enclosure annotated as ‘fort’ with a gravel pit shown on its S side. No surface remains visible of levelled site visible as a cropmark on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. Monument was upstanding in 1973 when it was described as a circular slightly raised area (approx. diam. 39m NW-SE) enclosed by a wide low bank and external fosse (Wth 4m; D 0.1m). Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running N-S across the interior. The perimeter of the monument has been quarried away on the SW side. The field fence which formed the boundary with Galmoylestown Lower originally ran in a N-S direction along the perimeter of the monument on its E side.
See attached profile of monument surveyed and drawn by the ASI.
