The National Monuments Service's description
Situated in undulating grassland on the landscaped estate of Clanhugh Demesne with Clonhugh House 200m to S. Depicted on the 1837 ed.OS Fair Plan map as an oval-shaped enclosure and annotated as ‘moat’. Depicted as a tree-ring and not as an antiquity on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. A roughly oval shaped area (approx. diam. 76m N-S; 116m E-W) enclosed by a low earthen bank and shallow external fosse. This appears to be a natural hillock which has been enclosed and planted with trees to form an estate feature contemporaneous with Clonhugh House.
