The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a small natural ridge in undulating grass-land with good views in all directions. Popssible moated site (WM008-042----) 65m to NNE and ringfort (WM008-044----) 110m to E. According to local information the complex series of depressions and/or earthworks in this field marks the site of the 'old town of Brownstown'. A cluster of buildings 50m to N are annotated as 'Brownstown Old' on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. All that remains of this complex of depressions is a rectangular shaped area (approx. dims. 6m N-S x 9m E-W) enclosed by a low earthen bank and fosse. To the W is a rectangular depression in the side of a natural ridge. To the N is an old trackway (Wth 2m).
