The National Monuments Service's description

The location of a watermill mentioned in a seventeenth century land grant to Adam Loftus has not been identified. In 1609 Adam Loftus was granted 'a watermill in Milforen' which was parcel of the estate lands belonging to the dissolved monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Tristernagh (WM011-053----) (Cal. pat. rolls Ire., Jas I, 140). The location of this placename Milforen within Westmeath has not been identified. It appears to have been located close to the townlands of Monkstown, Sheefin and Rathcorbally.
