According to Kinahan (1883-84, 233), ‘Ballykillagear – The stone represented in fig. 10 is said by the inhabitants of the place to be modern, and to have been once at the door of a smithy in the village, while the holes in it were made to hold water to cool pieces of iron in. This micalite flag is 3-5 feet [0.91-1.52m] by 2-4 feet [0.61-1.21m]. At the top is a very deep hole like one that a pivot worked in; near this is a small but deep hole; also a rectangular hole, 1 inch x .75 inch x 1.5 inches; below this is a slight depression; near is a small bullán, 9 inches in diameter and 2 inches deep, with, to the right side, an oval hole through the stone; near this is a small bullán, 9 inches in diameter by 2 inches deep; and below this again small cups. It may, possibly, have been an ancient stone modified and put to modern purposes; but, at the same time, it is quite probable that it is very modern’. This is possibly a cupmarked stone. The precise location of the monument is unknown.
