According to Price (1934, 51) in the townland of Mooreshill there are ‘the remains of a mound of earth called Killahurler Mote, which as about 70 yards [63m] in circumference, and 12 [3.65m] to 13 feet [3.96m] high. The eastern part of the centre has been dug away practically down to field level. Price quotes Kinahan (1882, 152) who recorded that ‘Some years ago a smith of the name of Sullivan dug in it for treasure, and is said to have exhumed an urn. At the time of the last British Association Meeting in Dublin Professor McKenny Hughes of Cambridge cut a trench across it, and found nearly half-way up from the base a horizontal layer of ashes’. The above description suggests that the monument may have been a mound barrow. The precise location of this monument is unknown.
