The National Monuments Service's description

Holy Well annotated as 'Tobergorey' on the various editions of the OS 6-inch maps. The well is situated in a small natural hollow within a large undulating agricultural field. It is a natural spring which was reputed as having 'been good for various cures' in the Ordnance Survey Parish Namebooks where it is described as 'Tubber-agorry Well'. Modern farming has altered both the site and its context, its original form is not apparent based on a recent site inspection carried out by Edmond O'Donovan. This holy well is dedicated to Moghóróg of Delgany under the guise of Guaire anglicised as Gorey [Tobergorey meaning the well of Gorey or Guaire] (Ó Riain 2011, 479). The Martyrology of Donegal listed December 23 as the feast day of St Moghóróg (O'Donovan 1864, 451).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
