The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on steep slopes scattered at irregular intervals on the N and S sides of the Upper Lake at Glendalough. Seventy-five oval-shaped platforms (dims. c. 9m x 6m); each platform is covered by a deep layer of charcoal. (Healy 1972, 138-46; Price 1940, 264-5)

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
