The National Monuments Service's description

Unlocated inscribed slab at Glendalough recorded by Petrie in 1878 (Petrie 1878, 60). According to Macalister (1949, 82-3) 'the drawing is inadequate and it is impossible to form any opinion or value as to the decipherment of the first two lines. The third is clearly ANIMABUS OMNIUM FIDELIUM in an abbreviated form' . Macalister bases his reading upon the illustration in Petrie/1878, Pl. XXXIII, fig. 70. This, as Petrie/1878, 60, makes clear, `is taken from a sketch in the collection of drawings made by Colonel Burton Conyngham's artists, but nothing is known of the monument now, and it is impossible to decipher the inscription as it stands'.
