The National Monuments Service's description

Unlocated inscribed slab at Gelndalough. Listed by Healy (1972, 13) as slab No. 185 which was located N of the cathedral (WI023-008003-). Described by Healy (1972, 13, 47) as 'a rectangular slab of mica schist 0.9m x 0.55m x 0.09m thick upon which is a single line of an inscription in Irish characters. The letters are fairly sharpy but the reading is not clear. The first eight letters are ÓR DO MURH (or N). The next two are not clear but may be A D. This is probably the stone recorded by Petrie which was recorded as MUREDACH (Petrie 1878, 58). Macalister (1949, 86 ) was unable to locate this slab and doubted its existence when he stated that Petrie recorded the existence of `six slabs, bearing Irish inscriptions', one of which bore the name Muredach. If this stone ever existed (of which I feel no assurance)'.
