The National Monuments Service's description
A fulacht fiadh uncovered during the construction of the Newtownmountkennedy to Ballynavarney Road Improvement Scheme at Ballyhenry, Killiskey, Co. Wicklow, was excavated. Only that part of the site that was situated within the road-take of the road improvement scheme was excavated.
The area measured c. 23m (east-west) by 8m. Following the removal of topsoil, the burnt material of the fulacht fiadh was exposed. The exposed extent of the monument measured c. 15.7m east-west by 7m (maximum). The maximum depth was c. 0.25m. Two modern field drains had truncated the burnt mound. Another modern field drain was uncovered following the removal of the fulacht fiadh material. The burnt mound was on a grey-coloured natural deposit. A number of natural depressions were uncovered subsequent to the removal of the burnt material. Six flint pieces were found during the excavation (Bennett 2006, 543).
