The National Monuments Service's description
Shown as a tower house in the 17th century and possibly the site of an Anglo-Norman castle known to have been erected before 1225 by Walter de Ridelesford. The site is distinguished only by a marked curve in the road at this point. (Price 1957, 334; Davies 1986, 22).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
