The National Monuments Service's description
Iron mines at Ardmore were originally established by Sir Walter Raleigh, but they were later purchased by Sir Richard Boyle. In 1636 Boyle leased them out for fifty pounds a year. They remain unlocated, although Westropp (1903, 378) says that there are traces of them on Ardmore Head. (Power 1978a, 31-2)
Power, T. (1978a) Richard Boyle’s ironworks in Co. Waterford. Part 2. Decies, No. 7, 30-36.
Westropp, T. J. (1903) Notes on the antiquities of Ardmore. JRSAI, 33, 353-80.
