The National Monuments Service's description

Marked as a bivallate ‘Danish fort’ on a 1774 Scalé map (NLI, MSS 7218, 6) with a small burial ground (WA033-001002-) within it on the roadside at the E edge. It is marked as a rectangular embanked enclosure (ext. dims. c. 35m E-W; c. 30m N-S), possibly just the burial ground, on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Situated in pasture on a N-facing slope. Rectangular scrub-covered area (dims. 22m E-W; 16m N-S) defined by a road fence at E, a low bank at S and W, and a curved bank (L 10m; Wth 3m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1m) at N. This is possibly just the burial ground, but there is no evidence of burial. It is described as a church site by Power (1952, 59) and as a possible moated site by Barry (1979, 36).

Barry, T. (1979) The moated sites of Co. Waterford. Decies, No. 10, 33-6.
Power, Rev. P. (1952) The placenames of the Decies. (second ed.) Cork University Press.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
