The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a small E-W ridge of rock outcrop c. 80m E of the N-S Brickey River, and at the S foot of the hillock on which Knockmaon castle stands. This is a small rectangular structure (ext. dims. 7.75m ESE-WNW; 5.75m NNE- SSW), of which the N, E and W walls survive almost complete (T 0.65m). Small windows are placed high in each of the surviving walls and a doorway (H 2.3m), now destroyed, is in the E gable. A cross-slab with a raised ringed cross, possibly from an altar, was moved to the tower house (WA030-006001-) at Cappagh. A small attached graveyard that is marked on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map has disappeared without trace (Power 1898a, 90-1). Knockmaon tower house (WA030-041001-) is c. 100m to N. (O'Connell Redmond 1918-19, 102)
