The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a shelf on a W-facing slope, with a slight E-W stream c. 60m to the NW heading W to join the N-S Mahon River c. 600m to the W. It was first identified as a burnt srpead by C. Moloney (2006) in testing (06E0163) on the line of a water pipe, and subsequently sample excavated (06E0284) by T. Janes.
A section (L 8m; T 0.4m) was excavated but most of the mound survives outside the pipeline corridor. Although no artefacts were recoverd a piece of oak charcoal produced a C14 date of 1535-1433 cal. BC (Janes 2008, 3, App. 8). (Janes 2009)
Compiled by: Michael Moore.
