The National Monuments Service's description
Sir Richard Boyle leased his furnace, woods, lands and mines at Cappoquin in 1615 for £500, and by 1620 a new double-furnace had been erected. By 1625 ordinance anc shot was being produced at the furnace. It had ceased production by 1750. It precise location is unknown, although it may be close to the town (Redmond 1885-6a, 402-3).
