The National Monuments Service's description

J.S. Carroll recorded in 1986 that there was then no surviving memory of a number of minor placenames recorded by Power in his volume on the placenames of the Decies (Power 1907; Carroll 1986, 46). Among them was the ‘Meadow of the Heads’ which as Power recorded was the ‘name is applied to two fields in which were found, over a century since, a number of human skulls, broken swords, &c.’ (1907, 194) Based on this evidence the record was listed in the non-statutory ‘Sites and Monuments Record’ (issued 1988) as ‘Battlefield, possible'. There is no reason to consider that these indicate the site of a battle and they could equally represent furnished burials or other ritual deposits that have no military associations. The precise location of the fields is unknown and the evidence is not sufficient to warrant accepting it as a battlefield site.
