The National Monuments Service's description
Situated towards the bottom of an E-facing slope. This is an early ecclesiastical site which may have been enclosed by a circular bank (Power 1952, 375). Subrectangular grass-covered area (dims. 30m E-W; 29m N-S) defined by a low earthen bank (Wth 7m) at S, an external scarp (Wth 6.5m; H 1m) at E and an internal scarp at W, but the perimeter at N is indistinct. A D-shaped bullaun stone (dims. 0.6m x 0.65m) with a single basin (diam. 0.24m; D 7cm) is built into the S face of a field bank to the N, and a second bullaun stone (dims. 0.37m x 0.3m; H 0.2m) with a single basin (diam. 0.26m; D 0.1m) was found NE of the site during land reclamation and is kept at the site.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
Date of upload/revision: 29th July, 2010.
