The National Monuments Service's description
At the rear of Nos. 17 and 18 Broad St., a building survey by Jo Moran (99E0004) identified earlier fabric in the standing 18th century structures, together with some timbers that might be medieval. Remains of the 12th or 13th century defensive bank and its ditch were uncovered in test trenches. (Moran, 2000)
