The National Monuments Service's description

The parish church of St Olave's which, as its name suggests, is probably of pre-Anglo-Norman foundation, although the earliest reference to it dates to 1407. Described as having a ruined nave and chancel in 1615 (Power 1913, 115), it was repaired in 1677 and totally rebuilt in 1734 (Smith 1746, 180). Phillips' map (1685) and a map (1673) published in Ryland (1824, 106ff.) depict a simple rectangular building. Part of the W wall (L 9.65m), including a blocked pointed doorway from a medieval structure, is incorporated into the 18th-century church. (Bradley et al. 1989, vol. 2, 248-9)

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
