The National Monuments Service's description

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in the Manor of Newcastle there were 'cabbins and grist mill wch. were upon the sd lands are decayed by reason that the sd lands are putt out of lyne, for being neere mountaines and woods where Tories usually frequent' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 331-2). The proprietor in 1640 is given as 'Edmond Prendergast of Newcastle Esqr Irish Papist' (ibid.). The mill is unlocated within the townlands of Clashganny West and Middlequarter.
