The National Monuments Service's description

In the Civil Survey (1654-6) a stone house is referred to as being in the Manor of Ardfinnan, and 'Upon the sd lands stands a 'castle & the walls of a castle, ye walls of a stone house & a bawne' (Simington 1934, vol.2, 410). This house is unlocated within the settlement (TS088-001----) of Ardfinnan but may be located within the bawn (TS088-001008-) at the castle (TS088-001001-) where there appears to be a succession of building phases from the 13th century onwards.
