On the N side of Clogheen village, a prosperous settlement in the 17th-century, crossing the River Tar which runs from W to E. The settlement expanded 'westwards from the old bridge and inn at the crossing of the River Tar' (Smyth 1991, 164). A four span flat bridge (L 31.7m) which has been widened. The earlier, W side has depressed arches (L 5.5m; Wth 4.1m; H 2.15m) and three pointed cut-waters. The voussoirs consist of roughly cut sandstone blocks set on edge, the bridge itself is a mixture of limestone and sandstone. There is evidence of plank-centring under the arch with lime mortar and course pebble grit. The bridge was widened (Wth 3.75m) to the E in the 18th-century, the later arches are round with broader cut voussoirs and a projecting key-stone. The bridge has no refugees. There is a high limestone parapet (H 1.33m; W 0.45m) with a number of drainage holes at the base of the parapet on the E side.
