The National Monuments Service's description
On flat ground in gently undulating terrain. There is no visible trace of 'Ballinhalla Castle' above ground. It is indicated as 'site of' castle on 1st (1840) ed. and subsequent 2nd (1907) ed. The former castle is surrounded by a moated site (TS087-029001-). The monument was inspected in 1958 (OPW Correspondence), however, the interior was heavily overgrown with scrub and was not examined. The monument was subsequently levelled.
