The National Monuments Service's description

An excavation in 2000 to the rear of the Post House, Gladstone St. (Excavation Licence no. 00E0652) revealed a mortared boundary wall, from the early 18th or late 17th century, running back from the street, associated with a substantial raising of the ground (Pollock 2002, 315). Under the infill (c. 0.9m below present ground level) a stone pavement and whitewashed cob building were found; beneath these (c. 1.1m below present ground level) clay floors and the stump of a clay-bonded wall were observed (ibid.). The remains are interpreted as buildings beside a medieval/post-medieval lane running back from Gladstone Street (ibid.).
