The National Monuments Service's description

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in 'Lower deragrath' there 'stands an old ruinous castle' which in 1640 was under the proprietorship of 'David ff linge of Clonmell. Irish Papist' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 317). This castle is unlocated within the townland of Derrygrath Lower.
