The National Monuments Service's description

An anonymous report (1906, 17) describes, 'set in a fence on the townland of Ballinver, a massive pillar-stone- perhaps a boundary mark or a grave or battle monument'. It is mentioned again in 1908 (Power, 200) as being a stone of 'large size and remarkable appearance'. The precise location of this monument is unknown.
