According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in 'Ballynamony' there 'stands a thatcht house' and the lands in 1640 were owned by 'John Neale deceased (sonne to Hugh Neale of Ballyneale) gent. Irish Papist' who acquired the land 'by Conveyance from his ffather Hugh Neale uppon his Marriage before the Rebellion' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 268). Following the Cromwellian Wars the confiscated land was given to two men, Dyck and Cunningham, in return for military service. They sold the land on to an Alderman Barker whose family remained on the land until 1876 when it was sold to the Marquess of Ormond (Keane Mahony Smith correspondence 16.1.1992). Located on a S-facing slope in undulating terrain at foot of Slievenamon mountain a vernacular single-storey thatched house, one room deep, may be the 17th-century referred to above. Lobby entry plan consisting of seven bays with hipped roof of reed thatch. Two red-brick chimneys with plain string-course near the top. One and a half storey return at rear is a later addition.
