The National Monuments Service's description
According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) there is a 'small castle tentable' in Grange beg, and the proprietor in 1640 was 'James Lord Barron of Dunboyne Irish Papist' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 170). This castle is unlocated within Grangebeg townland.
