The National Monuments Service's description
A graveslab 'outside of the E. gable' of the medieval church of Baptistgrange (TS077-008001-) is described in the Journal of the Association for the Preservation of the Memorials of the Dead in Ireland (Vigors 1891, vol.1, 487) as having the following latin inscription: RICHARD' ARCHBALD ALS STAPLETON ET KATHERINA VYN EJUS UXOR ME FIERI FECERNT ANNO DNI 1600'. It is not the same graveslab (TS077-008002-) as that identified by Maher (1997, 54) which bears no visible inscription and is stylistically earlier than 1600 in date. There is no visible trace of the 1600 graveslab but it is likely to be in the vicinity of the E gable, possibly under the sod.
