The National Monuments Service's description

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) 'In the Towne of Cahyr are two grist mills' which were the property of 'Thomas Lord Baron of Cahyr Irish Papist' (Simington 1931, vol.1, 350-51). An illustration of Cahir Castle and surroundings in the Pacata Hibernica (1633) depicts a mill on the island immediately N of the island on which the castle stands (O'Grady 1896, 53), which may be one of the grist mills. Neither of these mills (the other mill is TS075-048014-) have been precisely located within the townland.
