The National Monuments Service's description
In the Civil Survey (1654-6) under the introduction to the Barony of Slieveardagh 'Blenaleene' is described as having a castle & a slate house repaired at the States charge & inhabitted' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 101). The house is not listed under the entry for 'Bleanaleene', though 'James Tobyn of Killaghy Irish Papist' is listed as the proprietor in 1640. The castle (TS071-051001-) and house are unlocated within the townland.
