The National Monuments Service's description

In the Civil Survey (1654-6) under the introduction to the Barony of Slieveardagh 'Blenaleene' is described as having a castle & a slate house repaired at the States charge & inhabitted' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 101). Under the entry for 'Bleanaleene' 'James Tobyn of Killaghy Irish Papist' is listed as the proprietor in 1640 and the castle is described as 'the stump of an old Castle'. The castle and house (TS071-051002-) are unlocated within the townland.
