The National Monuments Service's description
According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in 1640 the lands of 'Cloghnocody' were owned by 'James Earle of Ormond' and 'Theobald Butler of Knocknaniny Irish Papist' and upon 'these lands are the broken Walls of an old little Castle' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 193). The present townland house, Clonacody House, was built c. 1780 and is a three-bay three-storey over basement house with a one-bay deep two-storey addition to the W and a single-storey linking to a further four-bay two-storey block. There is no indication that Clonacody castle was incorporated into the house. The castle is unlocated within the townland.
