The National Monuments Service's description
At the E end of Main St., facing westward into the square. This building, a public house called Lonergan's, formerly 'The Old Forge', was noted by Craig and Garner (1975, 50) as having 'a heavy stack' on its S gable. The building, which has quite a steep pitched roof, has been modified and extended, though retains the large stone chimney stack which may indicate a pre-1700 date for this building (Farrelly and FitzPatrick 1993, 104). An architectural assessment of the building in 2007 found no evidence of a pre-1700 structure and suggested that the stone chimney originally formed part of the adjoining four-bay building to the S, though it serves Longergan's fireplaces in the northern side of the party wall (Fallon 2007, 16-17).
