The National Monuments Service's description

In a description of the parish of Cordangan the Civil Survey (1654-6) states that 'Through the s[ai]d. Towne of Cordangen runns the River called Arra' and that the proprietor in 1640 was 'William oge Ryan of Cordangen Esqr. Irish Papist' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 28). This suggests that there was a settlement in Cordangan, possibly associated with the castle (TS067-055----) and church (TS067-056----), though the precise location within the townland is unknown.
