The National Monuments Service's description

A castle is indicated on the Down Survey map (1655-6) in the vicinity of the present Lismacue House. According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) 'Uppon ye three quarters of Lismchugh stands a demolished castle' and Theobald Butler is listed as the proprietor in 1640 (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 18-19). Lismacue House is a two-storey over basement 18th-century country house with early 19th-century additions. There is no indication that the castle was incorporated into this house. The castle is unlocated within the townland.
