The National Monuments Service's description

In the Civil Survey (1654-6) there is a reference to 'the Spittle in Tippary being twenty acres arable [which] did belong to the Earle of Corke within the towne of Tippary' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 37). It is likely that this hospital or spittle/spital was located in the small townland of Spital-Land c. 1km N of the town. There precise location of this building is unknown.
